Wait, that’s not right. Anyways, here’s the trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past, or X:DOFP as the cool kids on Twitter are calling it.
It looks cool and all, but there are a couple of ways it could go wrong:
1) It’s a time travel story and Hollywood rarely gets time travel right. If the movie is internally coherent, I’ll be impressed.
2) It has the tough job of reconciling all of the messed up continuity from the other X-Men films. In a way, I’m happy that the X-Men movie universe is still in the same continuity after 14 years. That’s quite an accomplishment in an age of reboots. However, X-Men Origins: Wolverine (bad) and X-Men First Class (good) have introduced several continuity problems. Perhaps X:DOFP can fix it, but usually introducing time travel to solve your continuity woes backfires.
Anyways, it’s certainly an ambitious story to adapt and it’s a creative way of passing the torch to the new cast without doing a hard reboot. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
